I'm not a Full Time Photographer

This one isn’t long, there is just something I have to admit: I’m not a full time photographer. Engagement and wedding photography is only a part time gig for me, and I think it’s important that I make that known to everyone. I don’t want to give a false impression to anyone looking for a full time photographer because there is the belief that the only good photographers are working full time as a photographer. (There is also the belief that if you have a good camera, you are a good photographer, but that’s another topic for another time.)

It’s my dream that one day I will be bringing in a full time income with photography so that I can bring my wife home from work to stay with Rowan. But right now, that just is not the case, and the only way to provide for my family at this time is to work a full time job that, fortunately, I love! (Seriously, we pray for each other and lift each other up.) I’m a new business, though I’ve shot over 30 weddings within the last 2 years. Many of these were with other photographers that were kind enough to take me under their wing and teach me the ropes so that I could start my own business, and trust me, it is not easy. The sacrifices required to shoot even just part time are pretty outstanding. Sleep, time with family, recreational activities, these are just a few of the things I have to sacrifice to make this work. But it’s all worth it! (:

As Dave Ramsey puts it, “Live like no one else, so that later, you can live like no one else.”

(Sorry for how choppy this is. I just had to get my thoughts out today!)
