The following is an excerpt from my FREE Guide to have an Authentic Engagement session. In this section, I talk on what to wear for an engagement session. I hope you enjoy!
WHAT TO WEAR FOR AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION
I want to start this section off with this disclaimer: dress authentically to yourself, don’t let other styles dictate how you dress! (: Now that that is out of the way, I do want to give a few pointers on how to look your best for your engagement photos.
When getting ready for your session, you may feel inclined to get a little extra made up. Maybe you’ll put on more lipstick than you normally would, or do your hair differently. If you are planning to get made up, I would advise hiring a hair and makeup stylist. Many are trained to do makeup specifically for photography. (A side note, try not to get a haircut within two weeks of
If you aren’t able to or decide not to hire a makeup stylist, then only apply as much as you normally would.
I promise, you’ll look and feel more confident by not overdoing your look! (:
As for apparel, if there is nothing in your closet that resonates with you (or doesn’t match the setting of your shoot), it may be time to go to the mall or hit up the internet!
Here are a few quick tips when choosing your wardrobe:
COORDINATE, DON’T MATCH
Instead of wearing the same thing, wear complimentary clothing. Neutral colors are great, and add little splashes of complimentary colors. Ex: Navy goes great with some browns!
REMEMBER THE SHOES!
This is mainly for the guys, so ladies, help them out! Often, men forget that shoes are a part of the wardrobe. Make sure that dark shoes and socks are worn.If anything, try not to wear sneakers unless you are doing a fitness engagement session (which would be awesome!)
DRESS THE OCCASION
You wouldn’t want to hike up a mountain in a dress, and you wouldn’t want to wear casual clothes at a black-tie event. Just know the occassion, and dress accordingly (: (Though, if you do want to wear a flowy dress on top of a mountain, just pack it with you!)
Accessories can add texture and _ to your wardrobe. Watches, bracelets and necklaces are always a great choice (as long as they are not too gaudy) to add some pizzaz to your wardrobe. Just keep this old adage in mind when accessorizing. “Less is more.”
